Losing weight has never been easy but is certainly not an impossible feat. There are no easy shortcuts to losing weight and the two key things are; diet and exercise.
Diet:
Eat sensibly: three to five smaller meals are better than three large meals a day that will spike up your glucose levels and cause insulin to store the extra calories as fat. Eating a balanced small meal that ideally contains a good amount of protein and whole, complex carbohydrates will ensure you staying full and eating less. Portion control and eating without distractions are also a few things that you can do to make the mind register the meal more and stop you when you are full. Choose well: starving yourself all day so that you can splurge on the tub of ice cream at night is never a good idea. Try choosing fruits for your sweet fix and vegetables when you get the urge to snack. Popcorn is a great snack if eaten in moderate proportions. So are carrot sticks with cheese dip and other raw sliced vegetables. Stay hydrated: many times our bodies mistake thirst for hunger and drinking a good amount of water a day keeps the belly satiated to some extent and suppresses appetite.
Exercise:
This is as important as diet.
Get active. Find something you do. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be a hamster on a treadmill, remember the games that you loved to play as a kid? Well guess what, some of them are still fine to play as adults! Find some friends together and play a game of basketball, take your kids to the beach and play ball with them, find a partner for jogging or just brisk walking on a favorite path. Don’t have anyone willing to exercise with you, then put on some music in your music player and do it yourself! Good exercise includes aerobic activity such as cycling, swimming, brisk walking and running. It should also include strength training 2 – 3 times a week to build up muscle and continue to burn fat even after your workout. The timing for exercise is another important thing. While debate over morning exercisers versus evening exercisers is still raging, the best time to exercise is when you’ll actually do it!
Diet and exercise are the two vital ingredients for success weight loss and ideal weight maintenance.
