Well, maya, i now exactly what your struggling with and i know its hard, but first of all, the most important ingredient is confidence. I completely understand if you want to loose a few pounds, but what other people think shouldnt be the main reason, it should be to make you feel better as a person, and i know you are a strong and beautiful woman no matter what anyone says ! As far as the diet thing goes, its not really that healthy for u to be on a really strict diet, so just i general one is better and it will be much more easier for you because you are still in school(besides the fact that its summer). If you stick to eating low to no carbs, drinking lots of water and tea, lots of protein and low sugar with all of your veggies and fruits, you will feel great and shed weight like nobody’s business!! i wish you the very best of luck, and dont give up, have self discipline too! haha!! you’ll need it trust me!!

Melinda- you sound like a very intelligent and strong person. I’m sure you’ve heard a lot of criticism and the media gives such a distorted sense of what we should be. North Americans are the fattest people in the world too..but we still manage to find partners and have children. What you should focus on is your exercise, studying and activities that you can put on your resume. Friends come and go in life. You’ll have way better boyfriends after high school and popularity doesn’t count for much when you are an adult. Take pride in who you are, you sound like you have a good head on your shoulders, and you write very well and express yourself with a lot of intelligence. Keep your chin up. Eat well, follow the guidelines on this site, and remember to exercise. And, about being born fat and dying fat..not true. I was born a large baby and I’m just slightly overweight (20 lbs from having kid after kid). My kids were also 10 lbs and they are so healthy, active and guess what? They are at their proper weight for their age groups. So, as far as not feeling full and having big portions, a trick is to take a smaller plate, serve yourself and then refuse to go back for more. Also, start some hobbies. Something to keep your mind off food. Do crafts, read, write, volunteer at your community center etc. do something your heart is into..and not what your stomach is into. I am a 39 yr old mother of 5. I have a very special trip coming up in early August and I REALLY need to tone up and drop some weight fast.

I am 195-200 lbs, 5’7″. I used to weigh 135 lbs., while I dont really care about pounds, I DO want to look better ASAP. I have about 5 weeks to flatten my tummy, build somewhat of a better rear end, with a little luck drop some of my 36 DD breasts and hopefully help with my inner thighs (outer too).

I currently take in, on most days, less than 500 calories. Ive been doing a low impact cardio and some toning for my abdomen, which has helped and Ive lost 25 lbs. But I seem to have plateaued and not a whole lot is working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The most important thing to remember when losing weight is to burn more calories than you eat. But you must also remeber that your body needs a certain amount of nutrients in order to be able to perform its day to day activities. Not eating enough calories can lead to your body going into starvation mode and it actually stores fat so it can survive. So, instead of eating less that 500 calories a day, try eating a 200-300 calorie breakfast lunch and dinner, and small 100-200 calorie snacks in between breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This way, your sure to get all of the nutrients and calories your body needs, and it will keep your metabolism going, instead of slowing it down, like starving will make it do. Also, because your a mother and you’re not a teenager, losing weight will be harder, so you will see that plateau every once in a while, my advice would be to change up your exercise routine, try doing cardio every other day and weights the remaining days, increase the amount of time you spend doing cardio, and change up the terrain (maybe try hiking or biking). Your body can sometimes start to get used to the routine you’re doing (sort of like when you learn your times table and it becomes really easy, then you move on to long division and it gets difficult again). Challenge yourself, and stay healthy. Besides, if you continue on the path you’re on, you will lose weight, but the second you start eating normally again, your body will cling onto every calorie you consume, and you’ll begin the dreaded “yo-yo” effect :/ GOOD LUCK! and kudos for being so motivated!

PS try doing pilates! it makes your butt look amazing! and strengthens your core! pilates and cardio! can’t go wrong

PPS another tip: if you have a goal weight (you said you’re 5 foot 7 inches and about 200 lbs so your current bmi is about 30.3, shoot for a healthy bmi-body mass index- of about 23, so shoot for a weight around 150 lbs) of around 150lbs, multiply that by 10 and that’s how many calories you should shoot for in a day so your body is healthy, and you can work some of those off for healthy weight loss more info on bmi (www.nhlbisupport.com)

Hey I used to be a real big one growin up, I was 5’2, 13 years old and 175, but the best advise I can give you is your goin to grow and lose the weigh in a year or two. It happened to me and I’m now 122, 5’4 and almost 17 teen years old. Just eat right and workout. An even if it doesn’t happen then forget about what ppl think about you. You have your friends and family that will still support you. You don’t need to feel pressure by the media, I’m a chick too and i don’t think young girls should be worrying about if they are small or big, life is short an your gunna have to live it up. I knew a girl that was a little bigger, and everyone luvd her becuz she didn’t care about the way she looked and had confiedence and she talked to everyone and was out there.

I want you too kno, you should be doing stuff you luv instead of stressin out about the little stuff, try to be out going and ppl will that your a good person. And do not let anyone bring you down about anythin, things will change for you,
